Our Mission

The last decade has seen a burgeoning of research concerning the relationship between river behaviour and environmental change. It has involved a wide range, and growing number, of disciplines including geomorphology, sedimentology, archaeology, ecology, engineering and planning. Reflecting this increasing interest in fluvial systems, the Fluvial Archives Group (FLAG) formed in 1996 as a Research Group of the British Quaternary Research Association. Since that time its membership has grown to over 160, with members from all over the globe (at present 24 countries). The aims of the group are:

To promote the value of investigating fluvial archives : through the production of widely available and readily accessible published information;

To establish a forum for the exchange of information and ideas;

To identify foci for future research :in particular to identify the gaps in current knowledge;

To facilitate joint ‘focused’ initiatives : to formulate strategies for addressing problems.
