QRA Meetings & Events

The QRA hosts various events each year, such as an Annual Discussion Meeting, Postgraduate Symposium, field meetings and workshops. We welcome proposals from researchers to organise field meetings on any aspect of Quaternary Science in the UK or Europe, as well as workshops and discussion meetings on any Quaternary topic. In addition, we are happy to co-sponsor meetings with other organisations. If you have an idea for an event, please reach out to us.

QRA Annual Discussion Meeting

The QRA’s Annual Discussion Meeting (ADM) takes place over two to three days every year in early January, and it focuses on a central scientific theme related to the Quaternary Period. The ADM attracts national and international interest and features keynote speakers from around the world.
The 2024 ADM is focused on ‘Changing Resolutions in Quaternary Science‘ and is organised by Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester.

QRA Field Meetings & Workshops

Field meetings organised by the QRA are dedicated to exploring recent discoveries and advancements in Quaternary Science within the UK and Europe. We also support and participate in international meetings outside of Europe.

Field meetings typically last 2 to 4 days, and are led by a designated field trip leader, who takes charge of organising travel arrangements and accommodations on behalf of the QRA. In addition to field meetings, the QRA also arranges workshops and brief discussion meetings, which can range in length from one day to several days. These events have a flexible format and may include a mini-conference, workshop, field day, or a combination of these.

If you have an idea for a field meeting or workshop then please get in touch with us using the contact for below.

QRA Postgraduate Symposium

The QRA postgraduate community also organises the QRA Postgraduate Symposium. This is usually held annually in early September.

Co-Sponsored Meetings

The QRA will also consider co-sponsorship of other meetings that support the aims of the Association and may be of interest and benefit to QRA members. Awards can cover venue, keynote speakers, registration costs, and to promote the QRA to new audiences.

There are currently  two deadlines a year for co-sponsorship requests: March 1st and September 1st. The maximum award amount is £500.

Outreach Talks & Events

The QRA is committed to encouraging the participation of non-Quaternary specialists in our activities and promoting related talks and events that may be of interest to the wider public.

QRA members often present talks on various aspects of Quaternary science to local community groups, schools, universities, and other organisations.
